OUR TEAM
Hello! I’m Abril, Clinical Intern
I’m a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern working toward my master’s degree at New England College. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire in 2024. As an intern, I aim to work with children, adolescents, and adults who may be navigating challenges and looking for an environment where they feel heard, supported, and understood.
How I work
My approach to counseling is warm, welcoming, and compassionate. I believe creating a safe, non-judgmental environment is an important first step in counseling. I use a person-centered approach that emphasizes active listening, empathy, support, and collaboration while working toward each client’s individual goals. I also help clients develop coping skills and strategies that they can add to their “toolbox” and use when navigating life’s challenges.
What Led Me Here
What led me to counseling was my desire to be there for people who may feel like they do not have a safe space to talk, feel heard, or feel understood. I have always valued empathy and the importance of having someone who listens without judgment. I wanted to become that person for others and create a space where clients feel supported, respected, and comfortable being themselves.
Outside of sessions, I love spending time with my poodle-Bichon, Luca, as well as my family and friends. I also enjoy traveling, watching my favorite sitcoms, and spending time outdoors—especially during the summer and fall!
