Hello! I’m Cadence, MA, CMHC
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor specializing in grief, loss, and trauma. I have a background in supporting individuals and families grieving loss due to overdose. I believe grief is non-linear and can take many forms, including non-death loss such as chronic illness or separation. I also believe in harm reduction and meeting people where they are at. I am especially passionate about supporting caregivers and fellow helping professionals.
Therapy Approach
My approach to therapy is relational, attachment-based, and humanistic. I integrate techniques from Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and somatic and expressive arts practices. I am trained in EMDR to help address the effects of trauma and reprocess memories related to traumatic loss. I also provide psychoeducation to help normalize grief experiences and gently challenge common messages like “time heals all wounds” or “everything happens for a reason.” In therapy, I believe you are in the driver’s seat. I’m sitting beside you with a map and some snacks, but you are in control of where we go and the pace we move.
Why I Became a Therapist:
I was drawn to this work through my own personal experiences with grief and loss, and from seeing how hard it can be to find spaces where it feels safe to talk about the hardest parts of grief. I have returned to therapy at many points in my life and have experienced how healing the therapeutic relationship can be. I knew early on that I wanted to be a therapist, and over time my experiences shaped my commitment to supporting people as they navigate grief, loss, and trauma.
Outside the office, I love hiking and paddleboarding in the warmer months, and curling up with a book, movie, or video game when it’s cold. I also enjoy spending time with my pets, including my orange cat, Flynn, and my one-eyed French Bulldog, Obi.
